DEATH VALLEY. There are reports of strange things happening at Death Valley National Park. These were the strangest clouds I have ever photographed. I was hiking through the sand dunes at Stovepipe Wells when I noticed these fast gathering storm clouds. I hurried to set up my tripod and 4x5 camera. There was only enough time to take this one photo before the rain started falling really hard. It rained for a few minutes, then it was all gone. The actual scene did not have the dramatic contrast of this photo. It took a bit of burning and dodging to bring this out in the final image. This photograph was shot with a 4x5 view camera with 90mm lens on color negative film. I scanned the film and used Adobe Photoshop to convert the image to black and white, and to adjust the final image.
